Who can Mindful TMS help?
Over 1 million people have chosen TMS to relieve their depression. TMS is a proven non-medication depression treatment that has been evaluated by several prominent governing bodies. The first is the FDA (US Food and Drug Administration) which cleared TMS in October 2008. They deemed TMS as a safe and effective alternative to antidepressant medication for treating depression. TMS is also endorsed by The American Psychiatric Association’s (APA) through their care guidelines for those who have not been adequately treated by initial antidepressant medication.
Those Mindful TMS Can Help
Through The Mindful TMS Approach, those who have failed to find the complete relief of depression symptoms can benefit from TMS. Each treatment is approximately 20 minutes long, and the number of treatments varies by individual. We strive to relieve much of the administrative burden through our attentive Seamless Experience element and work to maximize TMS clinical outcomes by utilizing Neuronavigation Targeted TMS and the Personalized Care Program in each patients TMS treatment.
How Does TMS Therapy Work?
Through the use of a treatment coil, TMS generates highly concentrated magnetic fields that turn on and off very rapidly. These magnetic fields are the same type and strength as those produced by a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system. Usually, the treatment coil is applied to the left, front side of the head. This part of the brain is involved in mood regulation. The Mindful Approach integrates Neuronavigation Targeted TMS to individualize the treatment to each patient’s unique anatomical features.
The treatment coil emits a magnetic field in a rapid sequence. This magnetic field produces very small electrical charges that activate cells within the brain. Activating these cells releases neurotransmitters. These are the same neurotransmitters that medications deliver systemically: Serotonin, Norepinephrine, and Dopamine. TMS releases these positive mood chemicals naturally. Additionally, TMS directly affects the neuronal circuitry in the brain, which overall optimizes treatment benefits.
